Team Plastic Punch plogs at the Accra International Marathon
On 26th October 2018, Plastic Punch took to the streets of Accra to raise awareness of the dangers of plastic in our environment during the Accra International Marathon (AIM).
The Accra International Marathon is an annual marathon event held in Accra, the capital of Ghana. The marathon is a charity event and open to people from all ages. Plastic Punch took this opportunity to Plog at the event. Plogging is a combination jogging and picking litter.
Team Plastic Punch volunteered to collect plastics from the last 10km distance of the race in Accra. The team set up collection points while others picked up improperly disposed plastic along the route. Armed with reusable gloves and bags, Team Plastic Punch plogged diligently up and down race course and collected waste plastics.
This event was also an opportunity to raise awareness on proper waste disposal and the dangers of plastic pollution. We have a collective opportunity to keep Ghana clean. The waste collected was sent to Mckingtorch Creatives to reuse for recycled objects and artworks.
Plastic Punch would like to give a special thanks to the race director Ekua Bannerman Richter and Dr. Fatima Khambaty for making this possible.
